Founding
The arch was Designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen. Eero Saarinen was an American architect and industrial designer who made designs for buildings and monuments like the Arch. eero created the Arch because he wanted to build a monument which would have lasting significance and would be a landmark of our time. The purpose of the Arch is to commemorate the westward expansion of the United States and St. Louis's role in it.

The st.louis Arch building process begain on February 12, 1963,and ended in October 28,1965. That means the building process for the Arch on lasted 2 years which is fast for a monument of its size. The material the St.Louis Arch was made of was an exterior skin of stainless steel and an inner skin of carbon steel. Arch is known for its unique weighted catenary arch shape, which allows it to withstand wind and earthquakes.The Arch is 630 feet (192 meters) high and 630 feet (192 meters) wide making it the tallest Arch in the entire world.
